Version 3.2

Version 3.2 was released July 20th, 2026

Key Changes:

1. The program now starts faster.
2. Improved uninstallation accuracy.
3. You can now access the Settings before the scan has completed.

Improvements:

1. The program now performs the first and next scans faster. For example, in one of our test systems with almost 200 installed apps, version 3.1 took 114 seconds to perform the first scan and 13 seconds for the next scans. Version 3.2 now takes only 58 seconds for the first scan and 8 seconds for the next scans.
2. You can now access the Settings before the scan has completed. This can be very important if, for example, you want to tell Uninstalr not to touch specific drives or disable some scan modes because the initial scan is taking too long in your system.
3. The "You have some rare software installed, would you like to share some data about them to us?" prompt is now displayed at most one time per week.

Fixes:

1. In some rare cases, choosing to uninstall BlueStacks could also cause unrelating shortcuts from the Start Menu to be listed for removal.
2. Even with "Always perform the deepest analysis" option checked, the Perform Deep Analysis button was incorrectly visible in the main user interface.
3. Known bug fixed: The default user interface might not display all of the found installed apps if you have over 600 installed apps.
4. Known bug fixed: Sometimes a clear leftover detection is missed, for example, an empty C:\Program Files\TikTok\ is not detected as the leftover folder of TikTok.
5. Known bug fixed: Sometimes an app is listed twice, for example, EaseUS ToDo Backup is listed once with its correct name and as a duplicate with a name of EaseUS ToDo Backup Free 2025.

Known bugs:

1. Uninstalr can fail to run with an Out Of Memory error in systems that have a lot of installed apps.
2. Using the New Software Monitor tool multiple times during one session can cause the program to get stuck on the Scanning stage.
3. The "uninstallation completed" message box sometimes closes when the user moves the mouse cursor over the button before user clicks it.
4. There is no feedback for the user after Fix Information feature has been used.
5. The Right Click menu’s Select by publisher option can display the number of apps per each publisher without correct vertical alignment.
6. Leftover apptype filter checkbox is shown in red font only in Dark Mode.
7. Clicking the app’s icon from the Windows Taskbar doesn’t minimize/restore the app like other apps.
8. The warning about an app that user wishes to uninstall being related to some other app user did not select can sometimes be inaccurate.
9. If app’s language is changed without restarting Uninstalr, the list of installed software might not automatically refresh.
10. Uninstalr might not properly detect and/or uninstall Steam games if they are installed to a drive different than Steam’s default location in C:\.
11. The uninstallation performance can be lower than with version 3.0 when uninstalling some apps, for example, uninstalling uTorrent leaves 4 leftovers while with version 3.0 it left zero leftovers.

Version 3.1

Version 3.1 was released June 24th, 2026 to our Patreon members. The official release to the public was on the 8th of July 2026. Note: There were multiple preview and release candidate versions of 3.1 made available. If you are unsure whether you have the official version 3.1, see the About window of Uninstalr and ensure it says you are running build 616. Or verify from the executable file’s properties that it is version 3.1.0.616.

Key Changes:

1. Uninstalr now starts and shows the list of installed apps faster after the initial scan has been completed, and with much smaller memory usage.
2. Uninstalr now detects and highlights apps that automatically start with Windows.
3. Greatly improved the detection of portable apps.

Improvements:

1. New feature: Uninstalr now detects and highlights apps that automatically start with Windows.
2. New feature: Uninstalr now highlights possible leftovers and apps from Russia and China. This can be disabled from the Settings.
3. New feature: A new filter that allows you to show only software that is installed to other than the system drive.

Fixes:

1. Known bug fixed: Some installed app names are capitalized incorrectly, such as "CCleaner Portable" is listed as "ccleaner portable".
2. Known bug fixed: Some apps can be listed twice, for example, Smart Defrag can be listed once as Smart Defrag and then Smart Defrag Home.
3. Known bug fixed: On the pre-uninstallation screen, the Scripts checkbox can be checked by default on Dark Mode but not on the normal mode.
4. Known bug fixed: Perform Deep Analysis can be started only by clicking the button, not via the Right Click menu, main menu or F4 keyboard shortcut.
5. Muse Hub could be incorrectly listed as Adobe Muse.
6. SyncTrayzor was incorrectly detected as two unrelated software, SyncTrayzor and Syncthing.
7. Smart Defrag was incorrectly listed twice as Smart Defrag 11 and Smart Defrag Home.
8. It was possible to enter non-printable characters to the search input boxes of the main screen, and the path listing screen, which caused the UI to look funny.
9. Changing the translation from Settings, especially many times in a row, caused the UI to distort.
10. If you had multiple instances of portable apps on your system, such as the 64b and 32b versions of the same portable app, typically only one of them was detected, not both.
11. In some very rare cases, Uninstalr UI could start with random characters in its search input boxes, which could make the UI look rather confusing. This was a rare issue, only reported by two users.
12. The pre-uninstallation screen could display non-existing paths for example as the software’s installation directory or main exe file. This was a cosmetic issue.
13. New Software Monitor cannot detect the installation of Claude.
14. Selecting all the found software made the UI look funny with the top panel covering everything else (because the names of all the selected software were listed there).
15. Sometimes a Steam game could be listed a normal app instead of a Steam game.
16. If the system restart after an uninstallation is delayed, e.g. because of Windows Updates being installed, this additional delay is incorrectly added to the time how long the uninstallation process took. This cosmetic bug could cause the program incorrectly report an uninstallation time longer than the actual uninstallation time.
17. Uninstalling Minecraft could simply fail.
18. The Only scan the system drive for installed apps setting does not fully work. If some apps are installed to a non system drive and this setting is enabled, the app could still be detected and listed on the main user interface.
19. Changing any settings could also incorrectly alter the Only Scan The System Drive For Installed Apps setting.
20. Microsoft OneDrive and Copilot are not always detected.
21. If you enter something to the search filter field, then select the text and press the Delete key, this triggers the Uninstall button click even if your intent was to delete the text input.
22. If you press the F5 key to refresh the screen during the uninstallation loading screen, the program will crash.
23. If you enabled some setting, such as "Do not analyze installed app installation sizes", it could automatically be unchecked later.
24. Uninstalr doesn’t warn you if you try to remove Fortec antivirus. There should be a warning if user attempts to remove any antivirus or antimalware type program. Such programs should not be uninstalled using a third party uninstaller, as they are typically protected against automated uninstallation, for security reasons.
25. With "Do not analyze installed app installation sizes" option checked from the Settings, Uninstalr could still display some installation size related elements in the UI which was confusing.
26. The "Only scan the system drive" option moved under Improve Scan Speed from the General settings.
27. If two software have the exact same name and version number, selecting both of them for uninstallation fails because only one is actually selected.
28. Sorting the installed apps by size sometimes fails and the order is incorrect.
29. The “Don’t show which paths are currently analyzed” did not work correctly - some parts of the UI still show the currently analyzed path with this setting checked.
30. The “Don’t list software less than 10 MB” filter did not work correctly - some apps smaller than 10 MB could still be listed.
31. Uninstalr could start very quickly and display an empty list of detected apps. Restarting the app usually fixed the issue and the list of installed apps was properly displayed.
32. If you placed portable Uninstalr to a same folder with other portable apps, those were not detected because Uninstalr automatically added its installation folder to the ignore list.
33. When trying to uninstall some specific software, Uninstalr could get stuck on the Searching for more data relating to the app phase.
34. Uninstalr could sometimes do a silent uninstallation even if user had unchecked the Perform a silent uninstallation option.
35. If app’s language is changed without restarting Uninstalr, the list of installed software might not automatically refresh. Fixed by forcing a restart.
36. When software is being uninstalled, the UI can say it is processing paths unrelating to the uninstalled app. This was a purely cosmetic issue and did not mean these paths are removed. This was reported fixed also before, but the previous fix made the issue to occur less often, this should be the final fix.
37. Ente Auth could be listed with full version number such as Ente Auth version 4.4.23+1023.
38. Transmission could be listed with full version number such as Transmission 4.0.6 (38c164933e).
39. The progress screen could display invalid paths such as C:|Program files|foobar. This was entirely a cosmetic issue.
40. If user has an app unknown to us, the "send app name to us" message correctly appears. But in such case, the total analysis time Uninstalr reports, incorrectly also includes the time it took the user to close that message.

Known bugs:

1. Uninstalr can fail to run with an Out Of Memory error in systems that have a lot of installed apps.

Version 3.0

Version 3.0 was released April 1st, 2026.

Key Changes:

1. The installed apps list now shows the country of origin for all known installed apps.
2. The main user interface and the before uninstallation paths view both now displays checkboxes, allowing easier selection of data to be removed.
3. The main window bar now includes Settings and About buttons.

Improvements:

1. The installed apps list now shows the country of origin for all known installed apps.
2. The listing of paths before uninstallation starts now displays checkboxes, allows user to uncheck any paths user doesn’t want to be removed. Editing the list of paths was also possible before, but since the UI was not very clear about this, many users were not aware of this.
3. Uninstalr now attempts to automatically detect system backup paths and adds them to the list of ignored paths.
4. The main window bar now includes Settings and About buttons.
5. Greatly improved support for detecting portable apps, especially NirLauncher ones.
6. Greatly improved support for detecting leftover app detection.
7. After software is uninstalled and the system restarted, Uninstalr now also says how long the entire process took.
8. Improved support for systems with software installed over multiple drives.
9. The Settings now also shows the builtin ignore list that contains all the automatically ignored folders from the system.

15. Installed software are now listed without their version number after the name. The version number is displayed normally under the name row.

17. The program could list paths that do not actually exist in the path listing before uninstallation. While this was by design, and explained in the UI, it was rather confusing and many people reported it as a bug. This is no longer done and instead, the Settings now contain an option about allowing Uninstalr to delete any app related paths that did not exist before the uninstallation started. Yes, sometimes running the app’s own uninstaller actually creates leftovers. This setting is to remove those.

Fixes:

1. Known issue fixed: Uninstalling some apps, such as WinRAR, did not always fully remove everything. Usually uninstalling the app again finally removed it.
2. Known issue fixed: The progress bar isn’t always showing the progress as well as it should.
3. Known issue fixed: Portable apps stored directly on a drive root, such as C:\WinFindr_Portable.exe, were not detected.
4. Known issue fixed: Portable apps stored on other drives than the C drive were not detected.
5. Uninstalling some software, such as Core Temp, took over 15 minutes.
6. Uninstalling some software can cause the program to hang or take a very long time to complete.
7. While software was being uninstalled, the progress screen could display paths of unrelating software. While this was entirely a cosmetic issue, it could cause the user to think that wrong data was being removed (it wasn’t).
8. Scrolling the list of installed apps doesn’t work using the mouse scroll wheel on some systems.
9. Uninstalr failed to detect Tor Browser.
10. Uninstalr could get confused if you had software installed in many hard drives.
11. The Settings page could be shown with the scroll bar not reset to the top position.
12. If you had the same software installed twice, first as a normal software and then as an app from Microsoft Store, only the normal version could be listed.
13. Using the Right Click > Regenerate list didn’t reset the search filters.
14. Using the Right Click > Regenerate could cause some installed software not be listed after the list of installed apps was regenerated.
15. The program could crash with Access Violation error message on some systems. This was a very rare bug affecting only very few people.
16. Clicking Show Data button didn’t display any kind of progress, which could make the user think nothing was happening.
17. The program failed to detect many builtin Windows apps. Note: To see these, you need to enable the option under App Types. They are hidden by default.
18. Detection of NirSoft portable apps didn’t always work properly.
19. If you chose No or Cancel option on the additional warning popup about similar apps being uninstalled, more similar warnings could be still shown before the operation was property cancelled.
20. If you had two apps with the same name and same publisher installed to the system (for example, two different versions of the same app), they would always be listed in random order when the list was sorted.

Known issues:

1. Uninstalr can fail to run with an Out Of Memory error in systems that have a lot of installed apps.

Version 2.8

Version 2.8 was released April 17th, 2025.

Key Changes:

1. New feature: Users can now choose to skip some analysis types, for example portable apps.
2. New feature: Uninstalr will now generate a log file after any uninstallation operation.
3. Greatly improved the speed and accuracy of detecting installed software. On average, the program now works 23% faster.

Improvements:

1. New feature: Users can now choose to skip leftover, portable app, system app and all Microsoft app detection entirely. This will improve the speed of detecting the installed software.
2. New feature: Uninstalr will now generate a log file of all the data that was removed during uninstallation. This can also be disabled.
3. Major improvements to the accuracy of software data detection.
4. Major improvements in detecting information about PortableApps.com platform apps.
5. Greatly improved the speed of detecting and uninstalling software. On average, the program now starts up with the list of installed software 23% faster. The speed improvement is especially noticeable when you start the software the second time, it will be much faster than the first time.

12. Uninstalr now attempts to display different software by the same publisher with unified publisher name spelling.
13. Uninstalr performs a faster scan by default on systems which contain a lot of installed software.
14. If restarting the computer is selected during uninstallation, the computer is now restarted two times to ensure even the most stubborn data can be uninstalled.

Fixes:

1. Some installed apps could be listed with a slightly wrong name, for example, Recuva could be listed as "Recuva Homepage".
2. Some Microsoft Store apps could be listed with a cryptic sounding name such as "ms resource:AppsDisplayName".
3. Some Windows components could be listed with slightly incorrect names, such as "Microsoft Global.Accounts", which should have been "Microsoft Global Accounts".
4. When uninstalling software, Uninstalr could show an error message incorrectly saying that Microsoft PowerShell is not available in the system, even if it is.
5. In some rare cases, the software could start without showing any UI or it could display error message "Cannot change Visible in OnShow or OnHide".
6. In some systems, Uninstalr could open and only show an empty list, saying the computer does not contain any installed software.
7. It was not possible to scroll the list of translations in Settings using the mouse wheel.
8. The program could freeze in some systems if you selected one app, clicked Uninstall, clicked Close, selected another app and then clicked Uninstall again.
9. Some of the warning messages could display the name of the selected software slightly wrong. For example, "Nero Burning ROM & Express 2024" was shown as "Nero Burning ROM _Express 2024" .
10. The paths display of some apps could say a software has no files and folders, yet the same screen lists the app’s main installation directory. While this was entirely a cosmetic issue, it was confusing.
11. Uninstalr could miss a single executable file portable software placed directly on the user Desktop.
12. Alcohol 120% is correctly detected and listed in the list of installed software, but if selected, it is shown as "Alcohol 120" by the UI.
13. Uninstalr might not detect some installed Epic Games, for example "Zenless Zone Zero".
14. Uninstalr didn’t correctly detect the installed software’s main shortcut, if the shortcut was a .URL file. For example, Steam and Epic Launcher games use .URL shortcuts instead of the regular .LNK ones.
15. The progress bar on the main window and in Windows Taskbar could get out of sync, showing different values.

Known Issues:

1. Uninstalr will fail to run with an Out Of Memory error in systems that have over 1000 installed apps.
2. Uninstalling some apps, such as WinRAR, does not always fully remove everything. Usually uninstalling the app again finally removes it.
3. Portable apps stored directly on a drive root, such as C:\WinFindr_Portable.exe, are not detected.
4. Portable apps stored on other drives than the C drive are not detected.
5. Uninstalr sometimes fails to list Microsoft Windows Mail as an installed app. Running the scan again show the app.
6. Uninstalr doesn’t detect software whose name contain unusual characters, such as Ren'Py.
7. Uninstalr doesn’t always detect some portable apps, such as Tor Browser or Rufus.
8. If you use Steam to install Half-Life to your C drive, but also keep archived copies of other Half-Life franchise games on other drives, they can all be detected to be part of the Steam installed version.
9. The progress bar isn’t always showing the progress as well as it should.
10. The user interface is not fully compatible with screen readers.
11. Changing the program’s font size from its Settings doesn’t work as well as it should.

Version 2.7

Version 2.7 was a private release only available to our Patreon members and testers. As such, no public changelog is available for this version.

Version 2.6

Version 2.6 was released February 13th, 2025.

Improvements:

21. If the program is running in portable mode from a USB drive, the settings will be saved to the USB drive instead of the system temporary directory.
22. If the program is being run on a system with a small screen (1920x1080 or smaller), the program will start maximized by default.
23. The installed app names are now more uniform. For example, if you have Microsoft Visual Studio installed, it comes with many components such as "Microsoft Visual Studio Installer" but the main program is officially listed as "Visual Studio", which is confusing. From now on, Uninstalr attempts to automatically unify the program names in such cases, and display "Visual Studio" as "Microsoft Visual Studio".
24. It is no longer possible to move the window if it is maximized.
25. The currently scanned path is now wrapped, so it is fully visible. Previously long paths would be simply cut.
26. The program no longer analyses any network drives.

Fixes:

1. The uninstallation engine can fail to detect shortcuts relating to installed apps.
2. Some builtin Windows apps could have been listed twice in some systems.
3. Sometimes the list of selected apps could show in non-alphabetical order in the uninstallation confirmation screen.
4. Using the filter feature unselected any previously selected apps.
5. Loading the list of installed apps could cause the program to crash with error message "duplicates not allowed".
6. In some systems, the program could freeze during the scan and never complete. This mostly happened in cases if user was running a non-English version of Windows.
7. If the program starts as maximized, the window top right icon might show the wrong icon.
8. Some texts of the Settings view could be partially hidden or overlapping with other UI elements.
9. Clicking the un-maximize button at the top right corner of the app window could un-maximize the window, but the new size could be the entire screen size, which made clicking the button rather useless.
10. The program was unable to detect the installation of Arc Browser.
11. The program window could move during uninstallation without any user input.
12. Some installed software are not detected in non-English Windows, such as Microsoft PC Manager in Chinese language Windows.
13. The listing of app’s data could say that no files or folders relating to the software were detected, even though the software’s main executable file is listed in the same view.
14. Trying to start the uninstallation with a search filter active could cause the uninstallation process not to start.
15. Running Uninstalr in a freshly installed Windows will display an empty UI, and it’s not possible to disable the "hide all from Microsoft" filter which makes the app not to list any software.
16. The program might fail to fully uninstall some Microsoft apps, such as Microsoft Weather.

Known Issues:

1. Windows taskbar icon can display the progress indication even when nothing is happening, or the taskbar progress indication moves from zero to 100% and stays there until the process is completed. This is a cosmetic issue.
2. Uninstalling many apps at the same time can cause the main UI progress indication not to work properly. The progress can stay under 5% for a long time, and only towards the end of the process it will finally reach 100% and the process will be completed. This is a cosmetic issue.
3. Some software can be detected with a slightly incorrect name. For example, Recuva can be detected as "Recuva Homepage". This is a cosmetic issue.
4. Some folders placed on the Desktop can be incorrectly detected as installed apps. Users are advised to ignore such apps and not uninstall anything they are not sure about.
5. The program is not fully compatible with screen reader software.
6. Changing the program’s font size from its Settings doesn’t work as well as it should.

Version 2.5

Version 2.5 was released May 30th, 2024.

Improvements:

1. The program can now better detect and close any message popups that might show up during the automated uninstallation process.
2. The program can now better uninstall apps. For example, the last version could leave some files behind when uninstalling Discord.

Fixes:

1. Uninstalling anything on some specific systems would cause Windows to show BSOD (blue screen of death) and this forced the system to be restarted. This issue was very rare and did not cause any system damage, simply restarting the computer restored it back to full working order.
2. The Settings view contained one setting two times. This was a cosmetic issue.

Known Issues:

1. The program is not fully compatible with screen reader software.
2. Changing the program’s font size from its Settings doesn’t work as well as it should.

Version 2.4

Version 2.4 was released May 2nd, 2024.

Improvements:

1. Greatly improved the program’s efficiency in uninstalling software.
2. The program can now detect the icon of installed apps better.
3. The program can now detect the icon of installed apps better.
4. Opening the Right Click > Fix Information now has a progress indicator.
5. Minor user interface improvements.
6. If you uninstalled something without restarting your computer, Uninstalr would previously reload the list of installed software, suggest you to restart the computer and then close. Now it will just suggest you to restart the computer and then close, without wasting time in reloading the list of installed apps.

Fixes:

1. Uninstalling specific apps could make Uninstalr get stuck and never complete the uninstallation process.
2. Uninstalling anything while specific third party antivirus programs were running could cause the system to restart without anything being uninstalled.
3. The program can report the installation size of specific apps incorrectly, with an installation size that is larger than the actual number.
4. The Settings view can display some of its texts clipped.
5. The program could display "PowerShell disabled" warning message even if PowerShell was properly working in the system.
6. The program could crash with "Out of Memory" after clicking the first uninstall button.
7. Automatic system restart might sometimes fail with Windows asking the user to confirm the restart because some app is still running.
8. The "Sort by age" feature sometimes failed to sort the list by installation age.
9. The "Tip: Uninstalr is still performing some final parts of the analysis, that is why these numbers might still update." text would never go away, even after all the background update tasks completed.
10. Opening the Right Click menu in the Settings view incorrectly included the Select By Publisher menus.
11. Selecting Right Click > Regenerate List would start the list refresh with the progress bar at 90% and it would reset to zero only after a few seconds.
12. Entering "C:" to the Ignore Paths feature in Settings caused all the paths from the C drive to be correctly ignored by Uninstalr, but at the same time, the Ignore Paths list on Settings would show up empty the next time the program started.

Known Issues:

1. The program is not fully compatible with screen reader software.
2. Changing the program’s font size from its Settings doesn’t work as well as it should. It’s much better in this version than in 2.2, but it’s still not good enough.

Version 2.3

Version 2.3 was released April 4th, 2024.

Improvements:

1. Greatly improved the program’s efficiency in uninstalling apps.
2. Greatly improved the accuracy of detecting portable apps from the system.
3. The analysis of installed apps will now work faster in systems with 200+ installed apps.
4. The program now warns the user in case Microsoft PowerShell is missing or disabled in the system. Uninstalr can be used in such cases, but its performance is not optimal and now users is made aware of this.
5. The program now warns the user in case Microsoft OneDrive seems to be syncing data from the system. This can cause OneDrive restoring an app that Uninstalr just uninstalled, making it look like Uninstalr failed to uninstall it.
6. The program now performs checks to confirm it has full access to modify the system before starting to uninstall anything. If there is no full access, the uninstallation can still be started but the uninstallation performance will not be optimal and user is informed about this.
7. The program now instructs user to choose "no" in case there is a popup during the uninstallation process asking whether the user wants to restart the computer.
8. After the program has started, it will still continue to perform certain analysis tasks on the background until they are all completed. During this process, the numbers relating to installed software and the number of detected paths will update on the user interface. Such changing numbers within the user interface could seem a bit odd, that is why the user interface now contains a message explaining this to the user.
9. The program can now detect more anti-virus and other system security related software and can warn user if they are about to uninstall such software with Uninstalr. This type of software is typically protected against automatic uninstallation and therefore uninstallation with Uninstalr will probably fail. Uninstallation of anti-virus or other security related software should only be done by following the tools and instructions of the publishers of such software, never with any third party tools.
10. Detecting leftovers of old apps is never 100% accurate. Therefore, Uninstalr will now display an additional warning to ensure user knows what they are doing, if they are attempting to remove any app that Uninstalr is saying looks like a leftover and the wording in general has been changed from "Leftover" to "Possible leftover" to highlight this further.
11. The program now reports when it is waiting for the System Restore Point of being created. Since this process is up to Windows and can take many minutes, it’s better for the UI to tell the user that this is what is happening.
12. Added an option to disable the use of automatically running script files to finalize the uninstallation.
13. You can now choose to use the standard Windows buttons within the program. This can be adjusted within the Settings view.
14. In the Right Click > Fix Information view, the Jump To Software feature is now only visible if there are three or more items on the list.
15. Improved the accuracy of "You are about to uninstall app1 and not app2 and these two apps seem to be related, are you sure?" warning so it won’t be displayed on apps which are not similar in nature. That being said, there is no problem of showing the warning too often, so it’s still calibrated to rather show the warning too often than too rarely.
16. The program can now be better used in smaller display sizes and screen resolutions. If there is not enough space on the screen, the program will simply hide non-critical user interface elements.
17. The app type, filter and sort menus now look better.
18. Added options to select and unselect apps by their app type and publisher.
19. Added a new feature called Ignore Paths to the Settings. This feature allows you to define any file system or registry paths that you don’t want Uninstlar to analyze or even touch. This can be used as one more layer of protection to ensure no important files are ever removed when uninstalling apps with Uninstalr.
20. Improved compatibility with Steam platform and Steam games. For example, Uninstalr is now better in detecting the size of installed Steam games.

Fixes:

1. Selecting an app and using the Right Click > Show Data did not show all the paths of the app. Only using the Uninstall option would show all the paths.
2. The user interface in the Settings view could look pretty bad on some screen resolutions and/or app window sizes. Texts could be partially overlapping and so on.
3. The program was not able to detect the installation of Windows Hardware Lab Kit software, as well as some other similar apps.
4. The program was not able to detect the installation of some Chinese software, such as a program called 360安全卫士
5. The program was not always able to detect app called WhyNotWin11, or it was incorrectly listed as "WhyNotWin"
6. The program could display Access Violation or Out Of Memory error on some systems. This problem might not be fully fixed, that is, it might still occur on some systems, but it should be at least partially fixed. The reason for this vague wording is that I have been unable to reproduce the problem in any test system, which means it’s a very rare issue, only happening on very specific systems and therefore, fixing it has also been very challenging.
7. Changing the font size setting of the program didn’t work very well. The preview was poor and the setting was not always even saved properly. It’s still not perfect, but it’s much better.
8. Writing something to the Hide filter will randomly move the focus to the Search filter, which makes using the Hide filter very annoying.
9. Starting to type something while on the main view adds that text to the Search filter input. This was working, but starting to type could sometimes randomly add the typed letter as upper case.
10. The program was not able to fully uninstall some builtin Windows apps, such as the Weather app.
11. The selection logic was confusing. If you used a filter to show only specific apps, then did Select All, also the currently hidden apps were selected, which could be confusing. Now the Select All and Select Inverse operations only apply to apps visible on the list of apps. Select None applies to all apps, though. Just in case.
12. There could be a rather long, up to a few seconds delay after clicking the first Uninstall button before anything happened on the screen.
13. When the uninstallation started, the progress screen could display "Uninstalling: " without any other information, such as the name of the app currently being uninstalled. This was a cosmetic issue, but could cause confusion.
14. It was possible for the app type or filter menus to remain visible when the list of installed apps was being regenerated.

Known Issues:

1. The program is not fully compatible with screen reader software.
2. Changing the program’s font size from its Settings doesn’t work as well as it should. It’s much better in this version than in 2.2, but it’s still not good enough.
3. Opening the Right Click > Fix Information can have a few second delay. This should have a progress indication.
4. Automatic system restart might sometimes fail with Windows asking the user to confirm the restart because some app is still running.

Version 2.2

Version 2.2 was released March 7th, 2024.

Improvements:

1. Greatly improved the program’s ability to detect portable apps.
2. The scan and analysis of installed apps is now a lot faster, especially in systems with a lot of installed apps. For example, in one test systems with over 500 installed apps, the previous version 2.1 takes 167 seconds to analyze the installed apps and the new version 2.2 takes only 125 seconds.
3. Added an option to alter the way how multiple apps can be selected from the list. The alternative method works based on Ctrl+Click.
4. Added an option to disable all additional warnings and confirmations about uninstalling apps. If you know what you are doing, you no longer need to see any of those warning messages.
5. Comes with updated Dutch, French, German and Swedish translations. If you want to improve the translation of the program in your language, please download this file: TranslationHelper.zip, open the translation file of your language with any text editor such as Notepad++, locate the [custom_strings_uninstaller] section and edit any poorly translated texts from there. After you are done, you can send the updated file to me via TranslationsSupport and it will be included to the next released version of the program.
6. The program is now better in detecting the installed version of apps.
7. The program can now find the icon of installed apps better.
8. The installed apps list now show better tooltips with more information.
9. Overall improvements to the accuracy of detecting data from the installed apps.

Fixes:

1. The program can fail to detect the installation of some programs, for example PopTrayU.
2. If attempting to uninstall a Microsoft app, such as Office, the additional warning message would list every other Microsoft app from the system and warned you that uninstalling one could affect the rest.
3. Fixed a few typos from the English user interface.
4. Changing the sorting of the installed apps list sometimes failed to work, especially if you tried to sort it by changing the sort setting very rapidly.
5. The bottom of the Windows desktop can show a partially visible minimized window during uninstalling some software.
6. Changing the UI font size from Settings didn’t update the UI while the setting was adjusted, and changing the setting but then closing the settings view without saving still applied the new font setting.

Known Issues:

1. Settings view doesn’t look great in different app window sizes and screen resolutions, sometimes some of the texts are cut off or overlapping.
2. The program is not fully compatible with screen reader software.
3. The program can crash with "Out of Memory" or "Access Violation" error message on some specific systems. Usually in systems that have a lot of installed apps. I have had about ten people reporting this issue, but so far I have not been able to reproduce it and therefore fixing it has been challenging. Version 2.1

Version 2.1 was released February 22nd, 2024.

Improvements:

1. The program can now better detect portable apps stored in the system.
2. Greatly improved the analysis and detection of Steam games. For example, sometimes a Steam game installation would show only a few KB installation size, when the actual size was much higher.
3. The program can now better handle files stored in the user’s Documents folders. Sometimes this folder contains only documents, as the name suggests, but sometimes installed apps also add their files in there.
4. Comes with updated Swedish translation. If you want to improve the translation of the program in your language, please download this file: TranslationHelper.zip, open the translation file of your language with any text editor such as Notepad++, locate the [custom_strings_uninstaller] section and edit any poorly translated texts from there. After you are done, you can send the updated file to me via TranslationsSupport and it will be included to the next released version of the program.

Fixes:

1. The program fails to detect the installation of certain Steam games, for example, Goose Goose Duck.
2. The program can list some Steam games twice, such as Quake Champions.
3. Ctr-clicking Show App Types > Platform: Steam would also check the Chocolatey App type, and vice versa.
4. The program can sometimes list specific type of installed software more than one time, for example, Backup4All. Note: Not all duplicate listings of installed apps are incorrect. For example, if you install Skype from Microsoft Store and then from their website as a standalone app installer, you will end up with two instances of Skype installed, and listing them twice is correct and expected with Uninstalr.

Known Issues:

1. The default installed software scan is slow in cases of a lot of installed software. For example, if you have over 200 installed software, the default installed software scan is probably going to take a few minutes. In such case, you can change the scan setting from the Settings view for the program to start faster.
2. The program doesn’t fully support screen readers.

Version 2.0

Version 2.0 was released February 15th, 2024.

Improvements:

1. Added improved searching, filtering and sorting options to the installed software list.
2. You can now choose the leftover scanning mode. For example, to use Uninstalr to only batch uninstall software by automating the running of each app’s own uninstaller, but without any additional leftover data cleaning.
3. You can now choose the installed software analysis depth.
4. You can now skip the main analysis to quickly see the main program window, for example, if you just want to use the new software installation monitor.
5. Uninstalr can now detect and uninstall PortableApps.com apps.
6. Uninstalr will now attempt to create a System Restore Point before the uninstallation begins.
7. Uninstalr can now detect and fix incorrect information from the Windows installed apps list, such as incorrect installed app sizes.
8. The installed software scan is now faster on most systems. In systems with a lot of software, the scan can still be fairly slow.
9. The program is now much better in detecting cases when user attempts to uninstall something that might be dangerous. In such case, an additional confirmation message is shown to the user.
10. Starting to type anywhere within the main results view will now add these key presses to the search input box. Previously, the search input box had to be in focus for this to work.
11. You can now start uninstallation by selecting an app from the list and hitting the DEL key from your keyboard.
12. Pressing ESC can now be used to close elements within the program, for example, ESC will now clear any active search filter. If you want to close the program itself, a Shift+ESC press is required. This is to avoid accidentally closing the program while working with it without using mouse.
13. The rows of the selected apps are now highlighted to make it more clear what is selected.
14. The Show All Data view now also includes a search feature, allowing you to quickly see whether the list contains any paths matching your search term.
15. Hitting the Home key from the keyboard now takes you back to the list of installed software.
16. Starting the uninstallation will now better communicate to the user that the system will be restarted during the process, if that option is checked.

Fixes:

1. In some rare cases, the software could get confused with paths of software with similar names and also list such paths to be removed as well.
2. When uninstalling software, Uninstalr can fail to automatically close browser popup if you are using Edge browser.
3. The default sort order of the result list was quite random. Now the default sort is based on the software name, and it’s also easy for the user to view the current sorting method and change it.
4. The Don’t Show Builtin Windows apps filter could sometimes hide third party apps if their names sounded similar to builtin Windows apps. For example, if you have an app called Notepadify installed, it could have been incorrectly classified as a Builtin Windows app, because it sounds like Notepad.
5. Right Click menu’s Settings option was visible also when the Settings view is already open.
6. Maximizing the program window could cause it to go over the Windows task bar.
7. The installation date can be different than what is shown in Windows Settings > Installed Apps.

Known Issues:

1. The default installed software scan is slow in cases of a lot of installed software. For example, if you have over 200 installed software, the default installed software scan is probably going to take a few minutes. In such case, you can change the scan setting from the Settings view for the program to start faster.

Version 1.1

Version 1.1 was released August 3rd, 2023.

Improvements:

1. Added Uninstall to the Right Click menu, and you can now uninstall a single app by simply performing Right Click > Uninstall with it.
2. Microsoft Store apps are now detected better. Previously their name or publisher data could be partially incorrect or missing.
3. Added an option to the Settings page for user to choose the level of leftover data scanning. With this setting, it’s now possible to use Uninstalr to only run and automate the uninstallers of the apps that are being removed and without any additional leftover data removal.
4. Portable app and leftover app detection is now more accurate.
5. The distinction between Show All Data and Uninstall views is now better. The Show All Data view no longer displays the Uninstall button, either.
6. The program now uses less RAM to operate. In some systems, the program might fail to start because of Out Of Memory error. This issue is not yet fully fixed, but it should now occur be even more rare.
7. The Uninstallation data view now shows a tip explaining that the view might contain non-existing paths. This is done, because sometimes running an app’s uninstaller actually creates new data to the system. By listing non-existing paths, these paths will also be removed during the uninstallation.
8. The installed software analysis should now work faster on most systems.

Fixes:

1. Changing the user interface language and then clicking Save Settings doesn’t always work. That is, the newly changed language setting is not saved.
2. In some cases, uninstalling any app could cause Windows to display Blue Screen of Death error message and reboot. This was entirely a cosmetic issue, there was no data loss or damage to the system.
3. The program assumes that Windows PowerShell is installed in the system and available. If it’s not, an error message was shown in such systems. This is now fixed and the program no longer assume that PowerShell is available.

Version 1.0

Version 1.0 was released July 27th, 2023.
